KURU DANCE FESTIVAL
beMOBILE sponsors the KURU DANCE

BTC Group through beMOBILE is investing in the preservation of the San culture, Botswana’s oldest, by sponsoring the largest cultural event within the San community. beMOBILE is sponsoring the KURU DANCE FESTIVAL to be held from the 3rd – 4th August 2012 to the tune of 350 000 Pula.  This sponsership includes a  fully equipped telecentre, with telephones, computers, printer/fax/copier, internet services and a sales centre  at  a cost of  150 000 Pula. BTC is  also donating    P 160 000  to the trust towards promotion of  the cultural event itself and forty thousand 40 000 Pula to revamp the dance arena. This makes BTC the largest single sponsor of the event this year

The festival brings  together San cultural groups from all over Southern Africa  to one place for two days to learn from each other  and promote their culture through art , dance and song .

Over and above that, recognising that ICT has become an integral part of our lives and development, we are also assisting the D’kar community, especially those who do not have access to communications facilities, through the donation of a Telecentre. This is but one of nearly 200 similar examples of BTC’s support for rural development.
The telecentre comes equipped with computers and internet connectivity allowing the D’kar community access to information. The Community will also run the telecenter as a community based internet café deriving income from providing services such as internet access, sale of sim cards and airtime. Telecommunications are key socio economic enablers facilitating growth and enhanced prosperity in rural communities.

Our support is also in line with the aspirations of Batswana as espoused in Vision 2016. In particular the  pillars, in Vision 2016, that speak to an informed and educated nation while also encouraging sustainable economic development. The donation of the telecenter is also in support of the government initiatives through the extension of the Nteletsa Rural Telecommunications Infrastructure project to extend services to underserved areas. Thus at BTC Group, we continue to play our role in bridging the digital divide, eradicating poverty of a different kind – poverty of information; encouraging Batswana to join the information highway and become a knowledge based society.
In closing, I’d like to say, we hope this token will go a long way in assisting  the community, through the trust, to realize some of their dreams and host a truly magnificent festival.

Our new Coprporate Vision is to be “Simply the Best”  we are proud to be associated with this event, which we are sure will similarly be, “The Best”
